It seems odd that a reading taken while you are asleep would predict your health better than one taken while you are living your life. There are a few reasons it does.

The version of this that surprises people most is isolated nocturnal hypertension: your office reading is fine, your daytime home readings are fine, and yet your pressure is high every night while you sleep. The catch is that nothing about a normal daytime routine will reveal it. The only tool that catches isolated nocturnal hypertension is 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, a cuff that inflates automatically through the night.
